Information Pack for Years 2007 and 2008
Thank you for your inquiry about ELECTRONOTES.
We are the publishers of
Electronotes Newsletter(since
1972),The Musical Engineer's Handbook, The
Builder's Guide and Preferred Circuits Collection, and hundreds of
Application
Notes. Nearly everything is available and in-stock. You will need to order by
ordinary mail, (or through PayPal - see FAQs) and can use the order forms below,
or just write the necessary information on a sheet of paper. Below you will find
some basic information about our publications, and the ordering materials
ELECTRONOTES is a newsletter-like publication currently being
released as
an "irregular serial" which means that new issues come out as they
become
available. In recent years, we have tended more to larger sized and less
frequent
mailings in order to reduce work overall. We are only a "one-man"
part-time
business (since 1972) and the fact that we are still going is a consequence of
our low-key approach to offering very specific information to a very small
clientele
base. In all cases, the newsletter volumes (and associated application notes)
are
determined by total pages, and not by months elapsed, so you always get the
full
amount of material for your subscription fee.
Specifically, our information relates to the
technical details of music synthesis and
other sound processing, both equipment and methods. In the 70's, we were
involved
with voltage-controlled synthesizers, and more recently, we are involved much
more
heavily in digital signal processing and digital sound synthesis. At the
present time,
we are involved with a comprehensive review of both analog and digital signal
processing. In general, readers would need to be at the level of a junior
electrical
engineering student, or have a similar background. However, we are dedicated to
the idea that all readers should advance educationally, and many readers have
grown into our material. We feel that we can be a part of this education.
Our publications have always been
black-on-white material, produced by offset
printing or by copy machines, so we generally have no problem making more
copies
of back issues. Nearly all previous issued materials are available, and in
excess of
99% of it is "in stock." We have large stocks of some materials,
while others need to
be produced a few at a time (at significant expense) as we run out. In
consequence,
we can offer a substantial discount (50%) on our "everything" package
which is an
averaging-out mix of back issues "collecting dust on the shelves" and
materials which
we must reprint frequently in small-quantity, at current prices. The
"everything"
package is a full collection of all material on the order form, and is a stack
over a foot
high of mostly 2-sided 8.5 by 11 pages, and the cost is $300. Since we realize
that
you may well be hesitant to invest this much (although, if this is what you
want, it is
a great bargain), we will offer you the opportunity, within one year of your
first order,
to use the first order as a credit against the $300 full package. Simply write
us with
the details of your first order (our record keeping is not great), along with
the additional
amount for a total of $300.
We have no such thing as a
"sample" issue. Indeed, any one issue would likely
mislead you as to the actual scope and depth of what we do. Please note the
"Link to Friends and EN Examples" below for some sample issue and
notes.
Please see the order form for our conditions of sale.
We may be hard to get a hold of, although
there is an answering service on the line
24 hours a day, if you just have questions relating to business matters. If you
have
technical questions, try to call late in the evening -
Business related questions can also be sent to the email address below. This
same address:
berniehutchins@yahoo.com
can also be used for general questions/comments, and for
PAYPAL. Technical questions
or general contact questions may also be sent to:
hutchins@ece.cornell.edu
There is often little time
to answer written technical questions, but these are important
to us, since we have a "Reader's Questions" section that appears in
the newsletter on
a regular basis. Also, individual questions often inspire specific
"Application Notes."
Our newsletters are aimed at newer ideas,
ideas of a more preliminary nature,
somewhat longer and detailed presentations, and at material more specifically
dealing
with music synthesis and audio signal processing. In contrast, the application
notes
which are offered as our "Extended Service" are shorter, more
tutorial, and aimed at a
somewhat wider range of signal processing and general electrical engineering
applications. Probably 75% of our subscribers get both services.
The Musical Engineer's Handbook is,
like our other materials, a collection of pages
for a loose-leaf binder. It was written in 1975, and is of course somewhat out
of date.
It has become however a somewhat classic reference in some circles, a fact of
which
we are somewhat proud. Individual copies must be made in small runs as needed -
hence the rather high cost unless taken as part of the
everything package. Somewhat
similar is the case of the Builder's Guide and Preferred Circuits
Collection. This
was a collection, updated several time a year, of our best analog circuits.
While it
is still possible to build analog music synthesizers, we can not recommend that
anyone
do it, except for research and educational purposes (we consider these
honorable
motives by the way!). The last update was July 1986, and we see no reason to
revise
the collection in the future. It is available to those who want it, and is
included as part
of the everything package.
We appreciate your interest in our
operations, and if our material seems to suit
your needs, we look forward to receiving an order from you. We try to ship
orders
within 10 days of receipt, but a few items may take up to 45 days or even
longer to
ship. Generally 99% of our materials are in stock, but we usually first
notice that
something is out when we actually put together shipments, and then we need to
locate,
and frequently, repair originals. Larger orders are usually shipped in two or
sometimes
three separated packages, shipped several days apart. We will appreciate your
understanding or our inability to offer prompt service on 100% of our items at
all times.

ORDER FORMS: The next three pages are our order forms - you will
need
to use two of the three pages. The first page gives the charges for the
actual
materials. After filling out this page, fill out a second page, either the
or the International version as is appropriate. Note that the only
difference between
US and International prices relates to additional shipping charges (if any) and
taxes
(if applicable). Note that if you live in the eastern US, outside NYS, there
are no
additional charges.
